The Daniel Fast and Our Menu for This Week
So, we’re back on the Daniel Fast until March. That basically means no meat, no dairy, no coffee, no sugar, no white flours or rice. Basically, a lot of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and that sort of thing.
This is what I’ve got so far:
Breakfasts:
- Smoothies (With Almond Milk)
- Cinnamon-Bun Oatmeal
- And then fresh fruit and nuts
Lunches:
- Flatbread (I have a feel we’ll be having these all the time)
- Brown Rice
- Veggies
Dinners:
- Brown Rice Stir-Fry with Orange Sauce
- Seasoned Potato Wedges with Homemade Ketchup
- Ratatouille
- Whole Wheat Pasta with DF-approved Pasta Sauce
- Baked Potatoes with Salt, Pepper, Oil and Garlic
Snacks:
- Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Balls
- Lots and lots of popcorn
- Rosemary and Garlic Slow-Roasted Almonds
- Homemade Trail Mix
And that is all I can think of right now. If anyone has any meal or snack ideas, I would love to hear them! I hope everyone has a great week!

Are we getting together for the Super Bowl? I could make a meatless jambalaya…also, cowboy caviar. You’ll have to let me know if there are any types of tortilla chips that are approved. Here’s to a meaningful fasting season!
I haven’t even thought of the Super Bowl! Is that this weekend?!
We can have any chips that are preservative free and also white flour free. I tend to buy corn chips, like those blue ones. I think you had some last time we did this.
I think I had chips, but Aaron was hesitant – something about deep frying vs. baked. Oh well, I’ll read chip packages very carefully this time
That makes sense. So much to think about. We can also bring over chips and whatever else is needed.
I assume eggs aren’t allowed?
You assume right. No eggs, which means no baking! Lol.
You’ll do great! I am enjoying my sugar-free challenge, but the Daniel Fast requires even more self denial and self control. I pray God will reveal Himself to you and bless you during your time of fasting. Looking forward to some new recipe ideas in the weeks to come
Yes! I believe besides the benefits of eating healthy, God will reveal Himself in a new way. Can’t wait to see what He’s going to do!
Oh, yeah. New recipes. I’ve already got a few ideas…
Mrs. Herb and I did the Daniel Fast two years ago…it was an extremely difficult process for me because I am so incredibly picky as it is, so I was limited on my veggie selection. However, your recipes look delicious and easy, which leads me to believe I could do it again! Good luck as you embark upon this venture again; prayers for you!
I used to be really picky. I still am but not as much. You learn if you’re hungry, you’ll eat anything!
i’m very intrigued by your fast these couple of months! I don’t know if I could go that long without bakign with eggs or white flour, so I commend you! That smoothie looks incredible.
I do miss baking. I don’t really miss white flour though, which is nice. I’ve started using Whole Wheat Pastry flour in all my baking, so I think that helps. It’s wonderful!
It’s definitely not easy. Right now I could go for a cup of coffee with a muffin! Haha.
I definitely recommend adding some beans/legumes to the diet. Perhaps a veggie chili, a Tuscan white bean dish with olive oil and herbs, or a lentil dish like Esau’s potage or just a mixed bean salad. There are a lot of recipes for bean dishes available on the web, but you can just wing it. I like to do bean salad with just beans and an italian type dressing. I do a meatless chili with just canned beans and tomatoes and season to taste. If you aren’t used to including beans in your diet regularly, I do recommend you start slowly to minimize the gassy digestive reaction.
Yeah… we don’t eat a lot of beans or legumes. We probably should. My friend makes a mean veggie chili. I’ll have to get that recipe from her. Thanks for all the recipe ideas! I’ll have to look on the web and see what’s out there!
