The Week That Was… and a Challenge

So, last night I was reading through Jen Hatmaker’s blog, and came across this post about her book 7 and some mini challenges.

The challenge that caught my eye right away was this: Commit to eating the food you already have as well as all leftovers for two weeks.

This is something we need to do. We have so much food (mostly pasta), and I like the thought of taking 2 weeks to eat it all up. This will be hard for us though, especially me. I love to try new things, to bake new things, to cook new things. If I see a recipe that I want to try, I usually will run right out to the store to get what I need. I think a little stop of that is in order.

So, starting today we’re going to eat only food that’s in our pantry, fridge, and freezer. I do have a few exceptions. I am going to still buy fresh fruit and veggies. And if we’re having guests over I might spend a little something so we’re not just eating pasta. Oh, and I need milk. That’s all.

And we’re also not going to eat out. This might not seem like a lot to you, but this is huge for us. So, unless someone brings us over Papa Murphy’s or McDonald’s I’ll just say no.

If anyone wants to join us on this challenge, we would love it!

  1. 2 weeks?! Jill your convicting me! I’m not sure if I have enough to go 2 weeks – unless I get super creative….but I’m with you for at least a week!

    • Haha! Let’s do this. It’s an adventure, and we’ll see how creative we can be. :)

  2. I love this idea and am so proud of you for taking it up!! We’re going to try and do a modified version of it for the next week, I think we’ll still get milk, fruits, and veggies, but hold off on everything else. We haven’t really stocked up on things yet since the move, but we do have some pantry items that came with us that are sorely in need of being used up! Thanks for the inspiration :)

    • We’re doing the same with allowing fruits, veggies, and milk. With having young kids, you really just need those things. I really would like to add in eggs and bread to that, but I don’t think I will. We have 15 boxes of pasta, so I think we’ll be okay. Haha.

Glad to have you on board! I’m looking forward to what everyone makes! :)
